Statement by Jan Schori, Chair Large Public Power Council On Comprehensive Energy Legislation

WASHINGTON, DC — This comprehensive energy legislation will give us long overdue mandatory electricity reliability standards. It also wisely recognizes the regional differences that exist in the critical electric power industry and provides flexibility to develop increasingly competitive wholesale electricity markets, while assuring that the nation's consumers will continue to receive reliable and affordable electricity.

This once in a decade energy legislation would not have been accomplished without the leadership and perseverance of Senator Pete Domenici and Congressman Billy Tauzin. The Large Public Power Council applauds their vision and determination.

We urge the Congress to expeditiously approve the conference report.
