THE LARGE PUBLIC POWER COUNCIL (LPPC)
ELECTS NEW LEADERSHIP
LPPC BEGINS THIRD DECADE
The Large Public Power
Council (LPPC) has elected two new leaders as it begins its third decade
representing the nation’s largest publicly owned energy systems. Mr.
Robert Johnston and Mr. Jorge Carrasco will serve as the LPPC’s chair and
vice chair, respectively.
Robert “Bob” Johnston is
President and CEO of MEAG Power, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia.
“With energy and climate
change issues dominating the nation’s policy agenda,” Johnston stated,
“there is a critical need for the LPPC to develop and forcefully advance
consumer-oriented protections and positions. As an organization
representing not-for-profit utilities, we are very much committed to
protecting the interests of the people and communities our utilities
serve.”
Johnston is a 25 year
veteran of the electric utility industry. In addition to his role as
President & CEO of MEAG Power, Johnston is Chairman of Georgia Allies a
partnership that promotes state business development. Johnston also
serves on the Board of Directors of The Energy Authority, the American
Public Power Association and Colectric Partners, Inc.
Jorge Carrasco is the
Superintendent of Seattle City Light in Seattle, Washington. Carrasco is
the former president of the New Jersey-based American Water Services. He
has also served as City Manager of Scottsdale, Arizona and as City Manager
of Austin, Texas.
Both have been elected
for two-year terms.
The LPPC’s membership
includes 24 of the nation’s largest publicly owned, not-for-profit energy
systems. LPPC members provide reliable, low-cost electricity to some of
America’s largest cities. The organization was launched in 1988.
