The Large Public Power Council (LPPC) is an organization comprised of 25 of the nation's largest locally owned and controlled power systems. The LPPC represents the public interest on national energy issues.

From Sacramento to Seattle, from New York to Texas, LPPC members directly and indirectly provide reliable, high quality, low-cost electricity to most of the more than 40 million people served by publicly owned utilities. This includes serving tens of thousands of large and small businesses located in some of the fastest growing urban and rural residential and commercial markets in America.

Through direct participation of the chief executives of its member organizations, LPPC works closely with citizens and local officials to develop consumer-oriented positions on national energy issues--and advances those positions with state and national lawmakers and regulators.

Like their approximately 2,000 smaller public power counterparts located in every state but Hawaii, LPPC's members are not-for-profit entities committed only to the people and communities they serve.

That means keeping costs down and service at the highest possible level. Public power rates are up to 9 percent lower than those charged by for-profit, investor-owned utilities.

For the last few years, the electricity industry has been the subject of much debate and discussion concerning its ability to serve consumers. The LPPC has been, and will continue to be, a contributor to that dialogue. Our participation will be grounded in the fundamental principles that have been a part of the American tradition of public power for well over 100 years.
