LPPC's New Senior Director of Policy & External Affairs Featured in Bond Buyer
In a recent article by the Bond Buyer, LPPC's new Senior Director of Policy and External Affairs Sarah Vilms sat down with Christina Baker to share the priority policy reforms LPPC is actively advocating for in Washington. Amongst them include updating Treasury's Private Use rules that currently prohibits public power utilities from entering into long term contracts with large load customers, expediting federal permitting for necessary transmission and generation infrastructure, and preserving federal disaster recovery and modernizing FEMA for public power.
On the recently published FEMA Review Council's Final Report, which proposes replacing the current documented-cost recovery process with a parametric model, and subsidizing the federal cost share with private insurance, Vilms said,
"A reduction in funding would force utilities to rely on private insurance, Vilms said, which doesn't cover much of their costs. One of our members had a $700 million FEMA claim, and private insurance covered $80 million dollars of it, so that's not really feasible."
