LPPC Supports Reauthorization of CISA 2015 & Stronger AI Cybersecurity for Critical Infrastructure
Artificial intelligence is changing the cybersecurity landscape, creating new opportunities—and new risks—for America's critical infrastructure. As Congress considers the Safe Harbor for AI Risk Exchange, Analysis, and Information-Sharing (SHARE AI) Act, the Large Public Power Council (LPPC) is urging lawmakers to strengthen cybersecurity while preserving the voluntary, trusted information-sharing framework that electric utilities rely on every day.
In comments to the House Energy and Commerce Committee, LPPC expressed support for reauthorizing the Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act (CISA) through 2035 and recommended targeted improvements to ensure utilities can securely share AI-related cyber threats without creating new legal obligations or barriers to participation. LPPC also called for stronger confidentiality protections, consultation with critical infrastructure owners during implementation, and legal clarity that supports real-world utility operations.
Representing 29 of the nation's largest public power utilities serving more than 30.5 million Americans, LPPC believes effective AI policy should encourage collaboration, protect sensitive information, and strengthen the resilience of the electric grid against evolving cyber threats.
